At Sumi Kitsune, we continued to translate and transform the traditional Wabori form into card style, preserving as well as enhancing many of the interesting and charming features we had in Sumi playing cards. Kitsune’s focus is on the spirit of the fox, a staple in Japanese folklore. We searched many different sources of folk tales, stories and myths about fox spirits and selected some known as sources of inspiration for court card characters. Kistune continues to serve as a tribute to Wabori and faithfully represents the visual nuances and quality that is the hallmark of traditional Japanese tattoo once again. This creates a visual card masterpiece like no other: a masterpiece that weaves fantastic stories from beginning times with modern game card aesthetics.
